Community Art and Scholars Program (CASP) visiting artist, Boswell Kasuka

History teacher Peter Kovas (left) and visiting artist Boswell Kasuka (right) pose in front of one of Boswell’s stunning sculptures depicting “The Big 5” game animals of Africa. The piece is sculpted out of a single piece of teak. Boswell, who hails from Mukuni Village in the Victoria Falls area of Zambia, is working with redwood for the first time.

Peter and Studio Arts teacher Kym Mattosian invited Boswell to campus for the last several weeks of school. Like many citizens of Mukuni, Boswell is a professional artist specializing sculpture, painting, and drumming.

Peter has known Boswell for many years and has developed a relationship over several visits to Zambia. Peter travels with students to the area every other year, so Boswell has touched the lives of many students and teachers over the years. Peter was proud to make this exchange two-way by bringing Boswell to Crystal to share his unique talents with the all Upper School artists and musicians.

Boswell’s visit was partially sponsored by the Community Arts and Scholars Program (CASP).
