Admission Open Houses: A Crystal Ambassador Perspective
The last Open House of the year is officially over. Truthfully, I’m kind of sad. Perhaps it’s the sort of nostalgia that creeps up on you, the sort that you don’t realize until it’s happening. You may doubt my reliability and accountability, because after all, why wouldn’t I be biased? The truth of the matter lies in my being a Crystal Ambassador. Such a responsibility is one of my choice. I’ve been asked why and to explain my decision countless times. Why choose to spend my Saturdays or Sundays at a school I already see way so much of? Why choose to take time out of my busy schedule to deal with crowds of nervous prospective students and their parents? The answer is because I’ve been there.
In retrospect, the process of finding the perfect or most compatible school was nerve wrecking yet exciting. The most notable aspect of the process was, to me, being able to share in the enthusiasm of the currently enrolled students. Though maybe only a minute detail in the grand-scale of things, it has always intrigued if not mesmerized me the way the students could thrust their passion onto you, could force you to imagine yourself having the same experience. The current students were competent in truly “sharing their experience.” So prior to my application for the esteemed position of a Crystal Ambassador, I knew that I wanted to be the one to evoke excitement and interest in prospective students, just as others had done for me.
Hopefully, as I speak for most of us at Crystal, we were successful in showing you our enthusiasm and providing some sort of insight into why we chose Crystal. As you sat in on some of our most revered classes, hopefully you noticed the teachers’ passion for their particular subject matter. As you took off your shoes and took a seat on the Tatami mats in the freshman history course, hopefully you realized the extent to which the teachers employ outside-the-box strategies to help you delve into the material. As you walked up the stairs to the third floor of the mansion and visited our language classes, hopefully you observed the teachers’ ability to provide a comfortable environment in which students are encouraged to put aside their fears and tentativeness and learn the idiosyncrasies and nuances of the language. As you talked to students, teachers, and parents, hopefully you could fully grasp the all-encompassing close knit community that we boast about. I encourage you to reflect on all that you observed, experienced, and shared with us, and then make the decision whether to join the Crystal community. It’s the environment, the community, the parents, the teachers, the students, really all of it, that makes up why I found Crystal to be the my first choice of school and what I came to truly love about Crystal.
