Commitment to Equity and Inclusion

Led by groups like the Multicultural Leadership Team, a committee composed of both faculty and students, curricular projects and community events are created as a commitment to equity and inclusion. This extends to families thanks to Crystal Family Association Diversity and Inclusion Liaisons, translation services, and the Spanish-Speaking Family Network. The Human Development Program, Crystal FIRST, a program for aspiring first-generation college students, as well as partnership with the Peninsula Bridge organization also demonstrate the core value of inclusion and commitment to community engagement. Most importantly, Crystal students themselves lead the charge through initiatives like Women Driving Change, LGBTQ Affinity groups, and 9th grade Diversity Day.

Family Inclusion at Crystal

Parents and guardians are supported during their child’s education through parent-specific programs, such as the Spanish Speaking Family Network, Partners in Education, and with the support of our Parent Association Diversity and Inclusion Liaisons.

Parent Association Diversity and Inclusion Liaisons
Aligned with our core value of practicing kindness and inclusion, this role is designed to support the school’s strategic initiatives related to DEI. It fosters inclusion among the parent and guardian community as well as develops parent programs to honor the community’s commitment to equity, inclusion, and social justice.

Partners in Education
Experts and thought leaders in parenting and education present and interact with parents, students, and teachers as a joint initiative between the Parent Association and the Administration.

PiE provides opportunities for parents and the school to engage with one another in open and honest ways, and allows a forum for ongoing discussion on issues of common interest.

Multicultural Leadership Team

Equity, literacy, and culturally responsive practices of faculty, staff, and students are developed in order to live out core values and ensure the school is a place where all community members are affirmed and able to thrive.

Who is the Multicultural Leadership Team?
Led by the Chief Equity and Inclusion Officer and two faculty co-chairs, one from each division, members of the MLT include Upper and Middle School Division Heads, Deans of Students, at least one member of each academic department, members of the student government, and additional student representatives.

What Does the MLT Do?
Primary goals are to provide a space for students and adults to engage in their own growth and development as it relates to topics of equity and inclusion, as well as to allow for collaboration and planning of community events. MLT-supported events and initiatives include MLK Day Assemblies and Community Potluck, Women Driving Change Conference, Crystal Circles, 9th Grade Diversity Day, and the Gender Inclusion Task Force.
